Born in the West of Ireland and educated at University College Dublin, Donal taught for three years in Ireland before setting off to travel for a year — but never quite returned. He has lived and worked across Europe, the USA, Asia, and Africa in various jobs but mainly in Education. More sedentary now, when not on the road, he writes about his travels from his home in Paris.
Internet Site: A Wandering Celt
A patchwork of moments — vignettes: from the backroads of Africa, to fishing villages in Greece , the windswept highlands of Ethiopia to the vultures of Bombay, the tiny eating ‘ gargottes’ of Madagascar, the Norwegian fjords and more. Some few pieces are drawn from my book, ‘ Moments Like These,‘ most others are scribbled along the way. All photos are mine unless otherwise stated.

Donal Conlon’s storytelling blends reflection, humour, and intimacy. Whether sipping coffee at a roadside stall or getting lost in a highland village, his voice invites the reader to slow down, observe, connect.
From sunlit rice fields in Madagascar to the windswept plateaus of Ethiopia, Moments Like These captures fleeting encounters, cultural quirks, and quiet epiphanies through the eyes of an Irishman immersed in a continent of contrast and beauty.
For the curious, the armchair traveller, or anyone who’s ever wondered what might be waiting at the edge of the map.
These are not guidebook tales. They are windows — glimpses into human moments that linger: laughter, the silence of hardship, the chaos of a street market, the magic of spaces at dawn and dusk.
